HOMENewsGambling Behavior Studied In University Lab

Jan 24th 2008

As almost all governments understood the impact and development of online gambling in people’s life’s they started to show concerns about problem gambling. Researchers and lab technicians at the University of Guelph from Ontario, Canada started a project to study what causes problem gambling. For that they had an innovative idea creating an artificial casino. Scientists believe that this way they will be given more insight into gambling behavior.

The artificial casino is located in the basement of one of the university buildings having authentic slot machines and a panoramic virtual reality viewer — which displays a 360-degree image giving that real casino feel. Over the next year, scientists said they will send around 450 test subjects through the simulated casino from where they hope to obtain important data about the gambling habits.
