The Semi Bluff in Texas Hold’em

- A semi-bluff is when you have some possibilities of improving a marginal hand hand.

- Let’s say you hold As, 5s and the flop is Ks, 5h and 2s. At this moment you have a pair of 5’s and that is not too great, because the hand can easily be beaten. The things can change though if you are dealt a spade or an Ace, because in that situation your hand would be among the best possible hands.

- This type of bluffing is used by the professional poker players because it provides two ways of winning:

1. If everyone folds you will take the pot

2. You can win by hitting a great card

- This type of bluff also provides extra advantages:

- If on the board there is a pair and nobody has raised your semi-bluff you can bluff because most likely no one holds that card.

- The opponents can’t precisely tell what you have. Let’s say that you hold Ah, 4h and the flop is Kh, 5c, 2h. If a 3 or an A, or any heart will come, most likely you hand is the best hand.

- If you don’t hit your card immediately, the semi-bluff can get you an extra card.

- One of the best situations to semi-bluff is when you have 87, and the board is K, 6, 4, because you can win by hitting a 5, 7, 8, or 9.
